Changes in retinal neurons in the guinea pig retina stimulated by strobe lights during development

چکیده
The modern-day population is overexposed to visual stimuli accompanied by contrast and strength changes, such as the television or videogames, beginning early in life. These light stimuli may have an influence on the development of the visual system. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of light stimuli on retinal development. We reared guinea pigs under a daily 12-h strobe light (2Hz)/dark cycle from birth, while control animals were reared under a 12-h light/dark cycle. The animals were sacrificed 1, 2, and 4 weeks after birth. The thickness of the outer nuclear layer (ONL) thickness decreased by 14.8% in the strobe-reared animals compared to the control group at 4 weeks, but not at 1 and 2 weeks. The Müller cells of the strobe-reared animals showed a stouter branch compared to that of the control animals at 2 and 4 weeks. In the strobe-reared model, axon-like processes emerging from the rod bipolar cell bodies were observed in the outer plexiform layer (OPL). These findings show that strobe-light stimuli induce morphological changes in retinal neurons, which may lead to the disturbance of normal visual processing during development.

The Role of Nitric Oxide and Prostaglandins in the Effect of Adenosine on Contractility, Heart Rate and Coronary Blood Flow in Guinea Pig Isolated Heart
It is a well-established fact that adenosine and its receptor subtypes (A 1 and A ) are involved in changes of contractility, heart rate and coronary blood flow (CBF) under different circumstances. This study was conducted to evaluate the role of nitric oxide and prostaglandins in development of these changes. For this purpose, Nitro-L-Arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), and indomethacin as inhibit...

Previous studies indicate that Matricaria chamomilla (MC), a folk remedy plant, is very useful in the treatment of spasmogenic bowel diseases but the way of its action is not clear. For this purpose, we studied the effect of MC extract on the electrically activation in Guinea-Pig ileum in an invitro model. We used guinea pig in this study. After of kill, we brouhght out a piece of ileum and fix...

متن کاملEffects of the Chromatic Defocus Caused by Interchange of Two Monochromatic Lights on Refraction and Ocular Dimension in Guinea Pigs
To investigate refractive and axial responses to the shift of focal plane resulting from the interchange of two monochromatic lights separately corresponding to the peak wavelengths of the cones absorption spectrum in retina, fifty 2-week-old pigmented guinea pigs were randomly assigned to five groups based on the mode of illumination: short-wavelength light (SL), middle-wavelength light (ML) a...
